Good news about the ACT for students

On October 8, 2019, the ACT announced that students will be able to re-take individual sections of the ACT, starting in September 2020. This is big news as students have only previously been allowed to re-take the entire exam. Here’s what you need to know from this announcement:

Students must first take the ACT to be allowed to re-take any portion of the exam.

Students may re-take any portion of the test only on a date when the full ACT is offered AND only at an ‘online-equipped’ testing site. (The ACT has not yet announced whether students can re-take the essay portion of the ACT.)

There are no limits on how many re-takes students may take.

There is no word yet on how these re-takes will be priced.

Students who took the test up to five years ago will be eligible to re-take sections of the test.

In addition, the ACT will offer students the option of sending a ‘super score’ report to colleges, showing the strongest sub-scores on each section. This has previously been unavailable to students.
